Welcome back to another wonderful term in Year 1! We hope you enjoyed a well deserved break - your brains worked so hard last term and they have grown so big! We can't wait to see how much bigger they can get by Christmas. We are so looking forward to all the fun we are going to have and we hope you will enjoy this half term and all of the amazing learning opportunities we have planned as you continue your learning journey in Year 1.

Our topic for Autumn 2 is 'Why is it cold in the North Pole?'. We will be focussing our writing around the story of 'The Princess and the Polar Bear' before continuing on to look at non-fiction texts about the North Pole and having a go at writing our own non-chronological reports. We will be looking at the geographical features of the North Pole and comparing them to the UK. We will look at the distance from the UK to the North Pole and consider the question - 'Could we swim to the North Pole?'.
In Maths, we will be practising our number bonds to 10 and 20, learning the names and features of 3D shapes and exploring word problems and the language relating to addition and subtraction - I hope you are ready to show us what mathematical geniuses you are!

PE lessons are on a Thursday but we also have 2 sessions each half term that are on a Monday - please ensure you always have a PE kit in school.

Reading books will be changed at least once a week but we will try our best to change them more frequently wherever possible.

BOOK BAGS NEED TO BE IN SCHOOL EVERYDAY.

We hope to  have a brilliant half term, continuing to grow, flourish and reach our full potential. You have made so many St Anne's memories already and we cannot wait for you to make many more as you continue your Year 1 journey!

Love Miss Dodd and Mrs Ford xx
