Welcome back to our Spring 1 term and a very happy new year!
We hope you have had a lovely Christmas and New Year and had a great time with family and friends.
Your class teachers continue to be Miss Briers and Mrs Cookson and your teaching assistant will be Mrs Barry.
We will be starting our first week back focusing on encouraging the children to share their Christmas experience. They will be writing a recount about their holidays.
Following on from this we will start our new theme through the question - Would the Beatles have won the X Factor? Through this theme your children will be learning more about the famous four as significant individuals in History, The capital city of Liverpool where the Beatles came from, other countries the Beatles visited, their rise to fame and the death of John Lennon.
In English we will be focusing on non fiction texts and will be suing these to support our research into the Beatles before creating our own non fiction information text. Children will have the opportunity to plan, research using various sources, make notes and then create their own information writing using headings, sub headings and paragraphs etc. Later in the half term we will be moving on to poetry where children will be exploring some of the Beatles famous lyrics and using these to create their own poems.
In maths we will be focusing on shape this half term and children will be developing their understanding of 2D and 3D shapes and their properties. Towards the end of the half term we will move onto statistics.
Children will be continuing to develop their quick mental maths skills and learning their 2, 5 and 10 times tables. We will particularly be focusing on developing our reasoning skills this half term.
Our school daily timetable for children in KS1 will be playtime 10.25 - 10.40 and lunch 11.45 - 12.45.
In year 2 we have a big focus on spellings and cursive handwriting. Our timetable includes a teaching session on this daily - please support your child with this at home by practising the weekly spellings each night and focus on their hand writing when doing so. Spellings will be sent home every Friday and children will be tested on these on the following Friday.
Multiplication is a huge focus in year 2 and we ask all parents and carers to support us with this by practising the 2 5 and 10 times tables at home. Now your child is in year 2 they will be given log in details for our TIMES TABLE ROCKSTARS and will be shown how to use this in school - we ask if you could continue to support with this at home too please.
There will be weekly times table tests to support your child with their development of this.
We would please like to ask that all parents/carers continue to encourage their children to access our school reading scheme Bug Club and please feel free to share your experiences of this with us. If your child needs new books please do not hesitate to let us know.
PE lessons will be on a Tuesday so please don't forget your PE kit :) These sessions will be taught by our brand new company Premier Sports so your children will have an amazing opportunity to develop a love of new sports and develop their skills.
Children should all be wearing full school uniform including black shoes please.
We look forward to seeing you all back to school in 2019 and ready to kick start another brilliant year!!
