The Resilient Kid
Building Resilient Kids Together
St Anne's RC Primary School is working in partnership with The Resilient Kid to help children develop the emotional skills they need not just for school, but for life.
The Resilient Kid helps children understand what is happening in their brains and bodies when emotions get big, giving them practical tools to manage worries, build confidence, navigate friendships, cope with challenges and become more resilient.
But we know we can't teach resilience to children in isolation.
Children thrive through connection and strong, safe relationships. That's why our work with St Anne's isn't only about giving children tools – it's about helping to build the relationships around them too.
When children feel safe, seen, heard and understood by the adults in their lives, they are better able to manage difficult emotions, learn from challenges and develop the confidence to navigate the world around them.
That's why our work supports the whole school community – children, teachers, staff and families.
What are we doing at St Anne's?
Our work with the St Anne's community includes practical, age-appropriate support designed to build children's emotional understanding, confidence and resilience.
Through our work together, children learn that:
All emotions have a purpose
Their behaviour can communicate what is happening underneath
They can learn ways to calm their brain and body
Difficult feelings don't last forever
Asking for help is a strength
Resilience isn't about never struggling – it's knowing you can get through difficult things with the right tools, relationships and support
Ultimately, we want children to leave school with more than academic knowledge. We want them to understand themselves, know how to navigate life's ups and downs and know that there are safe adults they can turn to when they need them.
For St Anne's Parents & Carers
Here's something we think every parent needs to hear:
You don't have to get it right all of the time.
In fact, research around parent-child relationships tells us that parents only need to get these moments of connection right around 30% of the time – and children can still develop secure, healthy relationships.
What matters isn't perfect parenting.
It's what happens when things don't go perfectly.
We all lose our patience. We misunderstand what our child needs. We say the wrong thing. There will be moments when we don't respond in the way we'd hoped.
The important bit is that we come back, reconnect and repair.
Those moments of repair can actually teach children something incredibly valuable: relationships can wobble and still be safe. We can get things wrong and make them right again.
So if you've ever gone to bed replaying something you said to your child and thinking, “I should have handled that better”, you're in very good company.
Your child doesn't need a perfect parent.
They need a connected one who keeps coming back.

One emotionally safe adult can change a child's life.
When home and school work together, we create something incredibly powerful around a child: adults who understand them, relationships where they feel safe, and practical tools they can carry with them as they grow.
That's what our partnership with St Anne's is about.
Together, we're not just helping children cope with today. We're helping prepare them for tomorrow.
