We would like to extend a warm welcome to all our existing families and those who may be new to our school community. We pride ourselves on our nurturing setting where we foster excellent relationships with all of our families. Our experienced staff ensure positive relationships are formed straight away. Transition will always be tailored to the needs of each individual child. We operate an open door policy and invite prospective parents to contact our school office to arrange a visit to come and have a look around.

EYFS Curriculum Intent

At St Anne’s Primary School, we believe young children learn best through curiosity, play and meaningful experiences. We are committed to providing a nurturing, inspiring environment where every child can thrive through high-quality teaching, strong home-school partnerships and skilled practitioners who respond to children’s interests through careful observation and purposeful interactions.

Following the EYFS Framework, we provide a balance of carefully planned adult-led learning and child-initiated play. Our curriculum develops the knowledge, skills and understanding children need while nurturing creativity, curiosity, resilience, kindness, confidence and independence. Through rich learning experiences and the Characteristics of Effective Learning, we encourage children to discover their strengths, develop a love of learning and believe in their own potential.

Our staff use ongoing assessment to understand each child's progress and plan purposeful next steps that build on their interests and individual needs. We are committed to ensuring every child has the very best start to their educational journey and achieves their full potential, underpinned by our school rules: Be Ready, Be Kind and Be Safe.

EYFS Curriculum Implementation

Our EYFS curriculum is brought to life through high-quality teaching, purposeful planning and responsive practice. The Early Years Foundation Stage Framework is carefully translated into engaging learning experiences that balance adult-led teaching with child-initiated play. Practitioners use high-quality interactions, modelling, questioning and rich language to build on children's prior knowledge, extend learning and encourage curiosity.

Planning ensures continuity and progression across Eager Explorers, F1 and F2. Long-term planning maps the curriculum, medium-term planning identifies key knowledge, skills and assessment opportunities, and weekly planning responds to children's needs and interests. Daily adult-led sessions in Literacy, Mathematics and Phonics are complemented by carefully planned continuous provision and enhanced learning opportunities, allowing children to practise, apply and deepen their skills through meaningful play. Ongoing assessment informs next steps, ensuring every child is supported and challenged to achieve their full potential.

EYFS Curriculum Impact

At St Anne's Primary School, we are committed to ensuring every child makes strong progress and achieves the best possible outcomes by the end of the Early Years Foundation Stage.

Before children start, we work closely with parents and previous settings to build a clear understanding of each child's development. In Eager Explorers, F1 and F2, staff use observations, interactions and professional judgement to establish each child's starting point. In Reception, children also complete the statutory Reception Baseline Assessment (RBA) and all children are screened using WellComm to identify speech and language needs. WellComm assessments continue termly where additional support is required.

Assessment is ongoing and forms an integral part of teaching. Observations, discussions, children's work and independent learning are used to identify next steps and inform planning without unnecessary paperwork. Learning is shared with families through ClassDojo or Tapestry and examples of independent writing are collected to demonstrate progress. Phonics is assessed every half term using the Little Wandle assessment materials to ensure children receive timely support and can 'keep up' with learning.

Progress is shared with parents throughout the year and in the Summer Term, Mrs Denton completes the Early Years Foundation Stage Profile (EYFSP), assessing each child against the 17 Early Learning Goals. Strong transition arrangements ensure Year 1 staff have a clear understanding of each child's achievements and next steps. Through our ambitious curriculum and high-quality teaching, children leave EYFS with the knowledge, skills and confidence to succeed in Key Stage 1 and beyond.
